I think this is actually right. Scientists should be focused on the most important and high impact research areas. We should want to make the world much better and reduce existential risk. So, I think accelerating AI might be counterproduct. Aside from accelerating intelligence with AI, genetic engineering seems like the way to go even if we care a whole lot about the importance of science. Doing science yourself seems inefficient longterm because we can make smart people. People with 200+ IQs are going to be way more productive scientifically and discover the secrets of the universe if AI doesn't first.
