Note: I was asked by the organizers to remove photos of the set. You’ll have to wait for the early 2025 release of the film to see it!
AGI Rising wargame held in London.
Amazing production - shot the documentary and played the game all in one day. Quite an effort - big, high quality production.
6 teams: US, PRC, EU, UK, Global Voices, Technologists
The Controller team that ran the game was superb.
Loved the Dr. Strangelove vibe!
Game had 3 turns, covering AI progress until ~2035.
The Controllers evaluated the actions of each team and determined the resulting evolution of the world between and during turns.
Teams engaged in lots of negotiation: internal and external.
We wrote strategic action plans each turn - economic resource allocation, covert action, and even direct attacks!
I was the China principal (team lead).
e/acc seizes power!
Some actions we took: pour 1% GDP into acc: close semiconductor gap, push algos, etc.
We were all wired up for sound. Multiple camera teams recorded formal meetings of the principals, and also internal team deliberations, diplomatic negotiations between teams, etc.
The Controllers received our turn strategies and responded by generating world events during the game.
Principals for PRC, US (Stan McChrystal), UK (Mark Sedwill), EU (P. Geli), Technologists (Jaan Tallinn), Global Voices (Yuval Harari).
Our team took actions like:
Pour 1% GDP into semiconductors & algos. By turn 2 Huawei had a GPU 33% faster than Nvidia's best.
When AI job losses caused global instability, PRC initiated UBI using CBDC and mobile phone accounts. Our social stability numbers were high throughout!
Everyone had to play specific roles. On national/bloc teams there were defense ministers who had to push NatSec, interior ministers who had to worry about social stability, etc. Global Voices (Harari) advocated for non-aligned nations, Technologists team represented megacorps and startups developing AI.
Jaan said his technologist role was modeled on Sama 😃
We were all exhausted by the end of the day, but there was a great after-party.
I was able to talk to the Controllers (adjudicators) to understand the impact of our actions and how they influenced the game. They were very thoughtful and the level of realism was excellent.
More Photos!
Real world: China pours 1% of GDP into getting the models to faithfully propound core socialist values.
Probably a good thing TBF, less dangerous AI race dynamics then.
Wow, looks fun. I hope we will get to see the whole thing!
